हूं दुहि हों मोहि दुहन सिखावो ॥ कैसे गहत दोहनी घुटुरुवन कैसे ले वछरा हाथनलावो ॥१॥ कैसे लें नोंई पग बांधत कैंसे वाय चरण अटकावो ॥ कैसे धार दूधकी वाजत सोसोबिधि तुम मोहि बतावो ॥२॥ निपट भई अब सांझ कन्हैया गायनकी कहुं चोट लगावो ॥ सूरस्यामसों कहत ग्वाल यों धेनु दुहन भोरहीं उठ आवो ॥३॥

हूं दुहि हों मोहि दुहन सिखावो ॥ कैसे गहत दोहनी घुटुरुवन कैसे ले वछरा हाथनलावो ॥१॥
“I want to milk the cows too. Please teach Me how to milk them. How should I hold the milking vessel between My knees, and how should I take hold of the calf and bring it near its mother?” ॥१॥

कैसे लें नोंई पग बांधत कैंसे वाय चरण अटकावो ॥ कैसे धार दूधकी वाजत सोसोबिधि तुम मोहि बतावो ॥२॥
“How should I use the rope to tie the cow’s legs, and how should I keep her feet steady? How does the stream of milk make a sound as it falls into the vessel? Please explain all these things to Me.” ॥२॥

निपट भई अब सांझ कन्हैया गायनकी कहुं चोट लगावो ॥ सूरस्यामसों कहत ग्वाल यों धेनु दुहन भोरहीं उठ आवो ॥३॥
“Kanhaiya, it is already quite late in the evening. You might accidentally hurt one of the cows.” Surdas says that the cowherd boys speak to Shyam in this way: “Come early tomorrow morning to milk the cows.” ॥३॥
