लैहोंरी मा चंदा लेहुंगो ॥ कहा करों जलपुट भीतरको बाहिर चोंक गहूंगो ॥१॥ यह तो दलमलात झकझोरत कैसेके जु लहुंगो ॥ वहतो निपट निकटही दीपत बरज्यो हूं न रहूंगो ॥२॥ तुम्हारो प्रकट प्रेम में जान्यो बहुरायो न बहूंगो ॥ सूरस्याम जब कर गहि लाऊं तब तन ताप दहूंगो ॥३॥

लैहौरी मा चंदा | Laihauri Ma Chanda

लैहोंरी मा चंदा लेहुंगो ॥ कहा करों जलपुट भीतरको बाहिर चोंक गहूंगो ॥१॥
“Mother, I will have the moon! I shall certainly take it. What shall I do with the moon inside the water? I want to catch the real moon outside, in the courtyard.” ॥१॥

यह तो दलमलात झकझोरत कैसेके जु लहुंगो ॥ वहतो निपट निकटही दीपत बरज्यो हूं न रहूंगो ॥२॥
“This moon in the water keeps trembling and shaking. How can I catch it? The real moon shines so brightly and seems so close. Even if You try to stop me, I will not listen.” ॥२॥

तुम्हारो प्रकट प्रेम में जान्यो बहुरायो न बहूंगो ॥ सूरस्याम जब कर गहि लाऊं तब तन ताप दहूंगो ॥३॥
“Mother, I know how much You love me, but I will not be distracted by Your attempts to persuade me. When I finally catch the moon in my hands, only then will my restlessness come to an end.” Thus speaks Shyam, as described by Surdas. ॥३॥
