नंदनंदन एक कहूं कहानी ॥ रामचंद्र राजादशरथ के जनकसुता याके घर रानी ॥१॥ तातवचनसुन पंचवटीबन छांडचले ऐसी रजधानी ॥ तहां वसत सीता हरलीनी रजनीचर अभिमानी ॥२॥ पहिलीं कथा पुरातन सुनसुन जननी के मुखबानी ॥ लक्ष्मण धनुषधनुष कहिटेरत यशुमति सूर डरानी ॥३॥

नंदनंदन एक कहूं कहानी ॥ रामचंद्र राजादशरथ के जनकसुता याके घर रानी ॥१॥  
O Nandanandan, I shall tell You a story. Ramachandra was the son of King Dasharatha, and Janaka’s daughter was His queen. ॥१॥

तातवचनसुन पंचवटीबन छांडचले ऐसी रजधानी ॥ तहां वसत सीता हरलीनी रजनीचर अभिमानी ॥२॥  
Hearing His father’s command, He left such a splendid kingdom and went to the forest of Panchavati. While He was living there, the proud rakshasa carried Sita away. ॥२॥

पहिलीं कथा पुरातन सुनसुन जननी के मुखबानी ॥ लक्ष्मण धनुषधनुष कहिटेरत यशुमति सूर डरानी ॥३॥  
As He heard this ancient story of former times from His mother’s own lips, He cried out, “Lakshman! The bow, the bow!” Sur says: Yashomati became frightened. ॥३॥

Nand-nandan ek kahoon kahaanee ||
raamachandr raajaadasharath ke janakasutaa yaake ghar raanee ||1||

taatavachanasun panchavateeban chhaandachale aisee rajadhaanee ||
tahaan vasat seetaa haraleenee rajaneechar abhimaanee ||2||

pahileen kathaa puraatan sunasun jananee ke mukhabaanee ||
lakshman dhanushadhanush kahiterat yashumati soor daraanee ||3||
