स्यामघन कारे कारे बादर ऋतु पावसहें कारे॥ कारी कोयल वन वन बोलत मोरकरा हिलकारे ॥१॥
Dark is Shyam like a raincloud, and dark are the clouds of the rainy season. The dark cuckoo calls from forest to forest, while the peacocks cry out joyfully. ॥१॥

कारे धुरवा धार छूटतहें कारे कारे काजर भारे ॥ कारे मदन सदन सूरज प्रभु कारे चीर संभारे ॥२॥
Dark streams pour down from the clouds, and the deep black eye-lining adds to the beauty. Suraj says: Prabhu, the abode of charm, is dark-hued and adorned in dark garments. ॥२॥
