ठाढीहो अजिर यशोदा अपने हरिहि लिये चंदा दिखरावत ॥ रोवत कित बल जाऊं तुमारी देखो धोंभर नयन जुडावत ॥१॥ चितें रहत आप शशि तन तब अपने करलैलैजु बतावत ॥ मीठो लगत कै यह खाटो देखत अतिसुंदर मनभावत ॥२॥ मनही मन यह बुद्धि करत हरि मातासो कहि ताहि मँगावत ॥ लागी भूख चंद मैं खेहों देहु देहु तब कर बिरझावत ॥३॥ यशोमति कहत कहा मैं कीनो रोवत मोहन अति दुखपावत ॥ सूरस्यामको यशुमति टेरत गगन चिरैया उडत दिखावत ॥४॥

ठाढीहो अजिर यशोदा अपने हरिहि लिये चंदा दिखरावत ॥ रोवत कित बल जाऊं तुमारी देखो धोंभर नयन जुडावत ॥१॥
Mother Yashoda stands in the courtyard, holding her beloved Hari and showing Him the moon. She says, “Why are You crying, my darling? I would give anything for You! Look at the moon to Your heart’s content and let Your eyes find joy.” ॥१॥

चितें रहत आप शशि तन तब अपने करलैलैजु बतावत ॥ मीठो लगत कै यह खाटो देखत अतिसुंदर मनभावत ॥२॥
Hari keeps gazing at the moon and points towards it with His little hands. He wonders, “Is it sweet or sour? It looks so beautiful and pleasing!” ॥२॥

मनही मन यह बुद्धि करत हरि मातासो कहि ताहि मँगावत ॥ लागी भूख चंद मैं खेहों देहु देहु तब कर बिरझावत ॥३॥
Thinking this to Himself, Hari asks His mother to give Him the moon. He says, “I am hungry! I want to eat the moon. Give it to me, give it to me!” He stretches out His hands and insists on having it. ॥३॥

यशोमति कहत कहा मैं कीनो रोवत मोहन अति दुखपावत ॥ सूरस्यामको यशुमति टेरत गगन चिरैया उडत दिखावत ॥४॥
Mother Yashoda says, “Oh, what have I done? My Mohan is crying and becoming so distressed!” Surdas says that Yashoda calls out to Shyam and tries to comfort Him by showing Him the birds flying in the sky. ॥४॥
