यशुमति सुत पलका पोढावे ॥ अरी मेरो सबदिनको बिछुर्यो यों कहिके मधुर स्वरगावे ॥१॥ पोढ़ो लाल कहूं एक कहानी श्रवणसुनत तुमको एक प्यारी ॥ सूरस्याम अतिही मनहरखे पोढरहे सब देत हुंकारी ॥२॥

यशुमति सुत पलका पोढावे ॥ अरी मेरो सबदिनको बिछुर्यो यों कहिके मधुर स्वरगावे ॥१॥  
Yashomati lays her son down upon the bed. Saying, “O my dear one, from whom I am separated all day,” she sings in a sweet voice. ॥१॥

पोढ़ो लाल कहूं एक कहानी श्रवणसुनत तुमको एक प्यारी ॥ सूरस्याम अतिही मनहरखे पोढरहे सब देत हुंकारी ॥२॥  
“Rest, my Lal; I shall tell You a story—one that will be very pleasing for You to hear.” Sur says: Shyam, greatly delighted at heart, lies resting and responds to each part with little sounds of assent. ॥२॥

yashumati sut palakaa podhaave ||
aree mero sabadinako bichhuryo yon kahike madhur svaragaave ||1||

porho laal kahoon ek kahaanee shravanasunat tumako ek pyaaree ||
soorasyaam atihee manaharakhe podharahe sab det hunkaaree ||2||
