Editorial policy
Pushti Kirtan is an independent library of Pushtimargiya kirtans, created to help readers explore devotional texts and their meanings. We want this collection to be useful, welcoming, and faithful to the texts it shares. Careful reading and contributions from the Vaishnav community help us improve it.
This page explains what you can expect from the library, how corrections are reviewed, and how you can help. You are welcome to contact us with questions, even if you are unsure whether something is an error.
Understanding the text and its meaning
- Original text: the kirtan text presented in Devanagari. Historical spellings and poetic language can differ from modern Hindi.
- English meaning: a reading aid for understanding the verse. A translation may not capture every devotional nuance, poetic expression, or possible interpretation.
- Transliteration: the verse written in Roman letters, where available. A Roman spelling of the title alone is not a transliteration of the complete kirtan.
- Occasion and raga: the collection labels used to help you find related kirtans. These classifications may vary across sources and traditions.
Different editions and oral traditions may preserve different readings of the same verse. A difference is not always a mistake. If you know another reading, please share its source and context so it can be considered carefully.
How review and publication work
Proofreaders compare the original text with the source material provided to them, review spelling and English meanings, and submit proposed changes. Contributor edits are staged for administrator review; they do not appear publicly automatically.
After a change is accepted, it appears on the public website with the next publication update. An accepted correction may therefore take time to become visible. If the public page still looks unchanged, please include its link when following up.
A published or verified record means it has been approved for inclusion in the library. It does not mean every interpretation is settled or that the text is free of errors. We welcome further evidence and corrections.
Sources, authorship, and attribution
The public catalog does not yet provide consistent, curated poet identities, translator credits, or edition references for every kirtan. Where a source or credit is missing, please do not assume an attribution from the title or surrounding collection.
A name within a verse is preserved as part of the text; it is not automatically treated as proof of authorship. If you can help clarify an attribution or identify an edition, please send the relevant reference, such as the book title, editor or publisher, edition, and page or verse number.
Dates associated with a catalog update describe changes to the digital record. They are not the historical date of composition or proof of when a verse was first published.
AI-assisted work and human judgment
The proofreading workflow allows AI tools to help prepare English translations. These tools can misunderstand older language, names, imagery, and devotional context, so their output needs careful human checking against the original text.
An AI-generated suggestion is not a source reference or independent evidence that a reading is correct. The public catalog does not currently identify the tools or drafting history of each individual translation. Please judge a proposed correction by the text, its context, and supporting sources.
Suggesting a correction
Small corrections are welcome, whether they concern a spelling, missing line, English meaning, transliteration, raga, occasion, or attribution. To help us understand your suggestion, please include:
- The kirtan page link or its ID.
- The exact word, line, or label you are asking us to review.
- Your suggested replacement and a brief explanation.
- A source reference or relevant passage, if available. If you are sharing an oral variant, please explain that context.
Email support@pushtikirtan.com or visit our contact page. You do not need to have a complete answer before getting in touch. A clear question can help identify a passage that needs attention.
Suggestions may need clarification or comparison with other sources before a change is accepted. When readings differ, please help us understand the variant rather than assuming one version must replace another.
Reading, sharing, and helping
When sharing a kirtan or referring to its meaning, include the kirtan page link so others can read the full context and see subsequent updates. The library is a study and discovery aid; questions about devotional practice or interpretation are best discussed with a knowledgeable teacher in your tradition.
If you would like to help regularly, learn about volunteer proofreading. You can also explore the library by occasion or raga. For information about use of the website and its content, please read our terms and disclaimer.
Thank you for helping make this collection more accurate, accessible, and useful to the community.
