MEANING
देखत वन व्रजनाथ आज अति उपजतहे अनुराग ॥ मानों मदन वसंत मिले दोऊ खेलत डोलत फाग ॥१॥Seeing the forest today, O Lord of Vraj, great love arises. It seems that Madan and spring have come together, and both are playing and moving about in Phāg. ॥१॥द्रुमगन मध्य पलाश मंजुरी उठत अगिन की न्यांई ॥ अपने अपने मेल मनोहर होरी हरखि लगाई ॥२॥Among the trees, the clusters of palāś flowers rise like flames of fire. The beautiful groups come together in their own ways and joyfully begin to play Holī. ॥२॥केकी कीरकपोत ओर खग करत कुलाहल भारी ॥ जनपद लज्जा तजी परस्पर देत दिवावत गारी ॥३॥Peacocks, parrots, pigeons, and other birds make a great joyful sound. The people have set aside their usual reserve and, with one another, exchange playful Holī taunts. ॥३॥झीली झांझ निर्झर निसान डफभेरि भमरगुंजार ॥ मानो मदन मंडली रची पुरवीथनि विपिन विहार ॥४॥The sounds of the jhīlī, jhāñjh, waterfalls, drums, daf, and bees fill the air. It seems as though Madan has formed his own gathering for enjoying the forest, as if moving through the streets of a town. ॥४॥नवदल सुमन अनेक वरन वर विटपन भेखधरे ॥ जनोराजत ऋतुराज सभामें हँसि बहुरंगन भरे ॥५॥The trees have taken on the appearance of many kinds of new leaves and flowers of many colors. The king of seasons shines in his assembly, smiling and filled with many colors. ॥५॥कुंजकुंज कोकिल कलकूजत वानी विमलवढी ॥ जानों कुलवधू निलज भईहें गावत अटनचढी ॥६॥In every grove the cuckoos sing in clear, sweet voices. It seems as though even respectable women have cast aside their reserve and are singing as they move about. ॥६॥कुसमितलता जहां देखत अलि तहींतहीं चलिजात ॥ मानों विटप सवन अवलोकत परसत गनिकागात ॥७॥Wherever the bees see flowering creepers, they go there. It seems as though, seeing all the flowering trees, they touch them like women moving from one to another. ॥७॥लीने पुष्प पराग पवनकर फिरतचहुंदिशधाये ॥ तिहिं ओसर संयोगिनि विरहनि छांडत कर भर भाये ॥८॥The wind carries the pollen of flowers and rushes about in every direction. At that time, those who are united and those who are separated both abandon their other concerns and become absorbed in the joy of the moment. ॥८॥और कहांलों कहों कृपानिधि वृंदाविपिन समाज ॥ सुरदास प्रभु सब सुख क्रीडत कृष्ण तुमारेराज ॥९॥What more can I say, O treasure of compassion, about the gathering in the forest of Vṛndāvan? Sūrdās says: Prabhu Kṛṣṇa, You are the king here, and all play in complete joy. ॥९॥
