MEANING
देखो वृंदावन श्रीकमल नेन ॥ आयो आयो मदनगुन गुदरदेन ॥ध्रु०॥Look at Vṛndāvan, beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. Madan has come, bringing his many beautiful qualities. ॥ध्रु०॥दुमनवदल सुवन अनेकरंग ॥ प्रति ललितलता संकुलित संग ॥ करधरे धनुष कटि कसिनिषंग ॥ मानों बने सुभट साजे कवच अंग ॥१॥The trees have new leaves and flowers of many colors. Beautiful creepers are densely entwined everywhere. Their branches seem to hold bows, and their trunks seem to have quivers fastened at their sides, as though the trees have become warriors fully equipped with armor. ॥१॥कोकिल कुंजरहय हंसमोर ॥ रथसैल शिला पदचर चकोर ॥ वरध्वज पताक तरुतारकेर ॥ निर्झर निसान वाजे भमर भेर ॥२॥The cuckoos, elephants, horses, swans, and peacocks are like the army’s various forces. The hills and rocks are like chariots, and the chakors are like foot soldiers. The tall trees are like great banners and flags. The waterfalls sound like war-drums, and the bees like great drums. ॥२॥जहां नेम सुमति अतिमलयवात ॥ मानों जेतवसन वाने उडात ॥ रुचिराजत विपिन विलोलपात ॥ धपि धाय धरत अतितुरतगात ॥३॥There, the Malaya breeze blows very strongly, as though it were the wind that makes the banners of the victorious army fly. The beautiful forest shines, its leaves moving and trembling; everything seems to rush and move with great speed. ॥३॥सूरदास इम वदत बाल ॥ आयो कामकूपन शिव क्रोध काल ॥ फिरि चितयो चपल लोचन विसाल ॥ यह अपनों करि थापिये गुपाल ॥४॥Sūrdās says this: Madan has come, the youthful one whose coming once brought forth Śiva’s anger. Then He looks again with His large, restless eyes. Let us make this Gopāl our own and keep Him firmly established in our hearts. ॥४॥
