MEANING
झूलत श्यामा प्यारी झुलवत आप विहारी रमकि-रमकि झोंटा देत है माई। रतनजटित खंभ दोऊ डांडी चार अति सुहाई गावत मल्हार राग तान सुनाई ॥१॥Shyama Pyari is swinging, and Vihari himself swings her, giving playful pushes, O mother. The two pillars and the four bars of the swing are set with jewels and look exceedingly beautiful, while melodies of Malhar are being sung. ॥१॥बरख जलधार घन गगन गरजन करे दामिनी दमकि मारुत जों धावे। देखके प्यारी तब दामिनीकी दमक डरपि घनस्यामको उरही लावे ॥२॥Streams of rain are falling, the clouds thunder in the sky, the lightning flashes, and the wind comes rushing. Seeing the flash of lightning, Pyari becomes startled and draws dark Shyam close to her heart. ॥२॥मधुरे सुरसो रटत पपैया अरु दादुर झनकार। सारस हंस कोकिला कूजत मधुप करत गुंजार ॥३॥The papiha calls out in sweet tones, and the frogs resound. Cranes, swans, and cuckoos are calling, and the bees are humming. ॥३॥मालव राग अलापति भामिनी श्रवनन झलकत भाल। कबहुँक उतरि स्यामा प्यारी झुलवति मदनगोपाल ॥४॥The bhamini sings the Malav raga, and her brow shines with a glistening glow. At times Shyama Pyari gets down and swings Madan Gopal. ॥४॥झूलनको आई व्रजवनिता बोलत वचन रसाल। झोंटा देत सखी ललितादिक काफी सुर गावत बाल ॥५॥The women of Vraj have come for the swinging, speaking sweet words. Lalita and the other sakhis give the swing its pushes, and the young girls sing in the Kafi melody. ॥५॥तैसीय रितु पावस मनभावन पहरि कसूंभी चीर। कल्यानके प्रभु गिरिधर संग ईह विध क्रीडत जमुना-तीर ॥६॥In that pleasing rainy season, wearing safflower-coloured garments, Kalyan’s Prabhu Giridhar sports in this way on the bank of the Yamuna. ॥६॥
