MEANING
खेलत वसंत वर विट्ठलेश ॥ मिलि रसिकराय गोवर्धनेश ॥धृ०॥Viṭṭhaleś, the excellent one, is playing in the spring, together with Rasikarāy Govardhaneś. ॥धृ०॥मृगमद कपूर केसरि सुरंग ॥ अति सोंधो सान्यों कुसुमरंग ॥ दोऊ भरि पिचकाई अति उमंग ॥ तकिभरत परस्पर सुभग अंग ॥१॥Musk, camphor, saffron, and beautiful colors are prepared with fragrant flower essences. Both fill their pichkārīs with great joy and look at each other’s beautiful forms as they fill them with color. ॥१॥भरिनव अवीर नौतन गुलाल ॥ अरगजा लगावत अललित गाल ॥ दोऊ हसतलसत आनंद ख्याल ॥ पहराबत सवन सुगंध माल ॥२॥They fill them with fresh abīr and new gulāl. They apply fragrant argajā to each other’s lovely cheeks. Both laugh and shine with joyful delight, and they put fragrant garlands around one another. ॥२॥चमेली फुलेल सरायवेलि ॥ मच्यो खेल अजर रंग रेलि ॥ सब गोकुल ॥ सौरभ रह्यो फेलि ॥ मधुमत्त मधुप रस रह्यो झेलि ॥३॥Jasmine, flower perfumes, and fragrant creepers fill the surroundings. A great play of colors has begun, and all of Gokul is filled with fragrance. The bees, intoxicated by the flower nectar, remain absorbed in it. ॥३॥तहां बाजत चंग मृदंगताल ॥ सुर मिलत मुरली गावे गुपाल ॥ व्रजजन रीझे जिय अति रसाल ॥ सुखदेत सबन गिरिधरनलाल ॥४॥There the chang and mṛdaṅga are played in rhythm. Gopāl plays the flute, joining the musical notes. The people of Vraj are deeply delighted in their hearts, and Giridhar Lāl gives happiness to everyone. ॥४॥
