MEANING
प्रात काल नंदलाल कुंजन मधि डोलै ॥सांवरे तन अलक मानौं अलि बोर कमल नैंन देखत दमकि मधुरे बैन हो हो होरी बोलै ॥१॥In the morning, Nandlal wanders among the groves. On His dark form, His curls appear like bees; His lotus-eyes shine as He looks about, and in His sweet voice He calls, “Ho! Ho! Holi!” ॥१॥बाजत बीना मृदंग अधवट आवज उपंग संख बंसी अमृत कुंडली झांझ झनक डोलै ॥हँसि हँसि डारति बूका बंदन रसिकराई नँद नंदन करति है प्रेम फंदन कंचुकि बंद खोलै ॥२॥The vina, mridang, adhavat, avaj, upang, conch, flute, amrit-kundali, and cymbals resound. Laughing and smiling, they throw handfuls of colour; Nandnandan draws everyone into bonds of affection, while the lively Holi play continues all around. ॥२॥छांड़ि लोक बेद भ्रम करनि बिबिध नेम कंधो मंजन करति सूर सुता रसमसे सुख सों ले 'कहि भगवान हित रामरई प्रभु कौं ऐसौ खेलि अपने ठाकुर और नंद कौ बस करत बिनु मोले ॥३॥Leaving aside worldly customs, formal observances, doubts, and many restrictions, Sur-suta joyfully applies colour to His shoulders, filled with the happiness of the festival. Bhagwan Hit Ramrai says: by playing Holi in this way with their own Thakur, Nanda’s son, they win His affection freely, without any price. ॥३॥
