MEANING
प्रथम कंस पूतना पठाई ।नंद घरनि सुत लिये जहाँ बैठी चली चली निजधाम जु आई ॥१॥First Kansa sent Putana; she came walking to the place where Nanda's queen sat holding her son ॥१॥अतिमोहनि नाम धरी लीनौ देखत ही सबके मन भाई ।जसुमति देखि रही वाकौ मुख काकी बधू कोन धों आई ॥२॥She assumed the name and form of a greatly enchanting one, pleasing everyone's heart at first sight. Jasumati kept looking at her face, wondering whose daughter-in-law she might be and from where she had come ॥२॥नंदसुवन तबही पहेंचानी आसुर घरनी असुर की जाई ।आपुन ब्रज समान भये हरि मानी दुःखित भई भई पराई ॥३॥Nanda's son recognized her at once as a demon woman, daughter of a demon house. Hari considered her as belonging to His own Vraj, though she came as a sorrowful outsider ॥३॥अहो महरी पाँ लागन मेरो में तुमरो सुत देखन आई ।यह कही गोद लिये अपने तब त्रिभुवन पति मन मन मुसकाई ॥४॥“O queen, I touch your feet; I have come to see your son.” Saying this, she took Him into her lap, while the Lord of the three worlds smiled inwardly ॥४॥मुख चुँम्यो गहि कंठ लगाये विष लपटे स्तन मुख नाई ।पय सँग प्रान खेंचि हरि लीने जोजन एक परी मुरझाई ॥५॥She kissed His face, held Him to her neck, and placed the poison-smeared breast in His mouth; with the milk, Hari drew out her life, and she fell, withered, a yojan long ॥५॥त्राहि त्राहि ब्रजधन आई अति बालक क्यों बच्यौ कन्हाई ।अति आनंद सहित हरि पायौ हिरदै माँझ रहे लपटाई ॥६॥Crying, “Help! Help!” the people of Vraj came rushing—how did little Kanhai survive? With immense joy they found Hari , clinging at her chest ॥६॥करवरटरी मेरेकी घरघर करत आनंद बधाई ।सूरश्याम पूतना पछारी यह सुनि जिय डरप्यौ नृपराई ॥७॥In every house the women clapped their hands and gave joyful congratulations. Sur says, hearing that Shyam had thrown down Putana, the king's heart became afraid ॥७॥
