MEANING
श्रीविट्ठलके धाम श्रवण सुनि बाजत आज बधाई ॥पंचम श्री रघुपति सुत प्रकटे लागत परम सुहाई ॥१॥Today joyful celebrations are heard resounding in the home of Shri Vitthal. Shri Raghupati has appeared as His fifth son, and the occasion looks exceedingly beautiful. ॥१॥बाजत ढोल भेरि सहनाई ध्वजा पताका राजे ॥द्वारन तोरन वंदन माला घृतदीपक छबि छाजे ॥२॥Dhols, bheris, and shehnais resound, while flags and banners shine. Torans and festive garlands adorn the doorways, and the light of ghee lamps spreads its beauty everywhere. ॥२॥कदलीखंभ कलश सोनेके मोतिन चोक पुराये ॥उठत सुगंध झकोर चहुं दिश जल गुलाब छिरकाये ॥३॥Banana-tree pillars and golden kalashas are arranged, and the chaukas are decorated with pearls. Waves of fragrance spread in every direction as rosewater is sprinkled. ॥३॥आये विप्र महाकुल प्रोहित करी वेद विधि भारी ॥गणिक लग्न देखत मुख बोलत हे यह शिशु अवतारी ॥४॥Learned Brahmins and the family priest arrive and perform the Vedic rites with great care. The astrologers examine the auspicious time and declare, “This child is an divine incarnation.” ॥४॥कहा कहूं गुण इनके एक मुख शेष न पावत पार ॥भयो उदय पूरण शशि भुविपर व्रजजन प्राण आधार ॥५॥“How can I describe His virtues with only one mouth, when even Shesha cannot reach their limit?” The full moon has risen upon the earth—the very support of the lives of the people of Vraj. ॥५॥सुन श्रीविट्ठलेशमन फुले महा उदार रसरूप ॥दीने दान सबन मन भाये गोधन बसन अनूप ॥६॥Hearing these words, Shri Vitthalesh’s heart blossoms with joy. Supremely generous and filled with rasa, He gives gifts pleasing to everyone—cows and beautiful garments. ॥६॥बंदी मागध सूत गुणी सब आये करिकरि टोल ॥गावत पावन यश रघुपतिको जय जय जय मुख बोल ॥७॥Bards, Magadhas, Sutas, and other accomplished singers arrive in groups. They sing the sacred glory of Raghupati, crying aloud, “Jaya! Jaya! Jaya!” ॥७॥किये अयाचक सबहिनकों श्रीविट्टलेश बडदानी ॥हयगज हेम धाम धरणी धन दीये करि सनमानी ॥८॥The greatly generous Shri Vitthalesh gives so abundantly that no one remains in need. Honouring everyone, He gives horses, elephants, gold, homes, land, and wealth. ॥८॥देत असीस चले घरघरकों कीरत करत अपार ॥रसिकदास गावे कहा मुखतें शेष न पावे पार ॥९॥Giving their blessings and endlessly praising His glory, they depart for their homes. Rasikdas says: how can one mouth sing all His praise, when even Shesha cannot reach its limit? ॥९॥
