MEANING
ब्रज भयो-महरिकै पूत जब यह बात सुनी ॥सुनि आनंदे सब लोग गोकुल गणित गुनी ॥When it was heard throughout Vraj that the queen had borne a son, all the people of Gokul, both learned and wise, rejoiced on hearing the news.ब्रज पूरब पूरे पुन्य रूपी कुल सुथिर थुनी ॥ग्रह लगन नक्षत्र बलि सोधि कीनी वेद धुनी ॥१॥The accumulated merits of Vraj from former times had borne fruit, becoming a firm pillar of the lineage. Having carefully examined the strength of the planets, ascendant, and constellations, the sounds of the Vedas were intoned. ॥1॥सुनि धाई सब ब्रजनारि सहज सिंगार कियें ॥तन पहरें नौतन चीर काजर नैन दियें ॥Hearing it, all the women of Vraj ran, having adorned themselves naturally; on their bodies they wore new garments and put kohl in their eyes.कसि कंचुकी तिलक लिलाट शोभित हार हियेंकर कंकण कंचन थार मंगल साज लियें ॥२॥They fastened their bodices; tilaks shone on their foreheads, necklaces on their breasts; with bracelets on their hands, they took golden trays filled with auspicious things. ॥2॥वे अपने अपने मेल निकसीं भांति भलीं ॥मानों लाल मुनिनकी पांति पिंजरन चूर चलीं ॥They came out in their own groups, in beautiful ways; it was as if rows of red sages, powdered with vermilion, were moving.वे गावें मंगलगीत मिलि दश पांच अलीं ॥मानों भोर भयौ रवि देखि फूली कमल कलीं ॥३॥They sang auspicious songs together, in groups of ten and five friends; as if dawn had come, and seeing the sun, lotus buds had blossomed. ॥3॥उर अंचल उड़त न जान्यो सारी सुरंग सुहीं ॥मुख मांड्यो रौरी रंग सेंदुर मांग छुहीं ॥They did not notice the end of their veils flying from their breasts; their lovely colorful saris shone. Their faces were adorned with red color, and vermilion touched the parting of their hair.श्रम श्रवनन तरल तरौना बेनी शिथिल गुहीं ॥शिर बरषत कुसुम सुदेश मानो मेघ फुहीं ॥४॥From exertion, their earrings trembled at their ears, and their braided hair had loosened. Flowers showered upon their heads from all directions, as if clouds were bursting. ॥4॥पीय पहलें पौहोंचीं जाय अति आनंद भरीं ॥लई भीतर भवन बुलाय सब शिशु पाँय परीं ॥The beloved women reached first, filled with great joy. They were called and taken inside the house; all fell at the child's feet.एक बदन उधारि निहारत देत असीस खरी ॥चिरजीयो यशोदानंद पूरन काम करी ॥५॥Lifting the cloth from His face, each gazed and gave true blessings: “Live long, O joy of Yashoda, fulfiller of all desires.” ॥5॥धन्य धन्य दिवस धन्य रात्र धन्य यह पहर घरीं ॥धन्य धन्य महरिजूकी कूँख भागि सुहाग भरीं ॥Blessed, blessed is the day; blessed the night; blessed this watch and moment. Blessed, blessed is Mahariji's womb, filled with fortune and auspicious married grace.जिन जायो एसौ पूत सब सुख फलन फरीं ॥थिर थाप्यो सब परिवार मनकी शूल हरीं ॥६॥She who has given birth to such a son has borne the fruit of all happiness. She has firmly established the whole family and removed the pain of the heart. ॥6॥सुनि ग्वालन गाय बहोरि बालक बोलि लिये ॥गुहि गुंजा घसि वनधातु अँग अँग चित्र ठये ॥Hearing it, the cowherds gathered the cows and called the boys. Stringing gunja berries and rubbing forest pigments, they decorated every limb.शिर दधि माखनके माँट गावत गीत नये ॥संग झांझ मृदंग बजावत सब नंद भवन गये ॥७॥With pots of curd and butter on their heads, they sang new songs. Together, playing cymbals and mridang, they all went to Nanda's house. ॥7॥एक नाचत करत कुलाहल छिरकत हरद दही ॥मानों बरखत भादोंमास नदी घृत दूध बही ॥Some danced and made joyful noise, sprinkling turmeric and curd. It seemed as if, in the month of Bhadon, rivers of ghee and milk were flowing.जाको जहीं जहीं चित्त जाय कौतक तहीं तहीं ॥रस आनंद मगन गुवाल काहू बदत नहीं ॥८॥Wherever anyone's mind went, there wonder appeared. The cowherds were absorbed in rasa and joy; no one spoke to anyone. ॥8॥एक धाय नंदजूपे जाय पुनि पुनि पाँय परैं ॥एक आप आपुहिं माँझ हँसि हँसि अंक भरैं ॥Some ran to Nandju and again and again fell at his feet. Some, among themselves, laughing and laughing, embraced one another.एक अंबर सबही उतारि देत निशंक खरैं ॥एक दधिरोचन ओर दूव सबनके शीश धरैं ॥९॥Some fearlessly took off garments and gave them to their friends. He clothed the noble elders, gurus, and twice-born, and fell at everyone's feet. ॥10॥गन गैया गिनी न जाय तरुन सुबच्छ बड़ी ॥निन चैँ यमुनाजूके काछ दूने दूध चढ़ी ॥The herds of cows could not be counted: young, with fine calves, large ones. There near Shri Yamunaji, their milk had increased twofold.खुर रूपे तांबे पीठ सोने सींग मढ़ी ॥ते दीनी द्विजन अनेक हरखि असीस पढ़ी ॥११॥Their hooves were silver, their backs copper-colored, their horns plated with gold. He gave many of them to the Brahmins, who joyfully recited blessings. ॥11॥तब अपने मित्र सुबंधु हँसि हँसि बोलि लिये ॥मथि मृगमद मलय कपूर माथें तिलक किये ॥Then, laughing and laughing, he called his friends and good kinsmen. Mixing musk, sandal, and camphor, he made tilaks on their foreheads.उर मणिमाला पहराय बसन विचित्र दिये ॥मानों बरषत मास अषाढ़ दादुर मोर जिये ॥१२॥He placed jewel necklaces on their chest and gave them wondrous garments. It was as if, in the rainy month of Ashadh, frogs and peacocks had come alive. ॥12॥वर बंदी मागध सूत आंगन भवन भरे ॥ते बोलें लै लै नाम हित कोऊ ना बिसरे ॥Excellent bards, Magadhas, and Sutas filled the courtyards and houses. They spoke out, taking each name with affection, forgetting no one.जिन जो जाँच्यौ सो दीनी रस नंदराय ढरे ॥अति दान मान परधान पूरन काम करे ॥१३॥Whatever anyone asked for, Nandarai gave; rasa overflowed. He performed abundant giving and honoring, and fulfilled all desires. ॥13॥तब रोहिनी अंबर मंगाय सारी सुरंग धनी ॥ते दीन बधून बुलाय जैसी जाय बनी ॥Then Rohini ordered garments, rich and beautifully colored saris. Calling the daughters-in-law, she gave to each as was fitting.वे अति आनंदित बहोरि निज गृह गोप धनी॥मिलि निकसीं देत असीस रुचि अपुनी अपुनी ॥१४॥Those wealthy gopis, greatly delighted, gathered and returned to their own homes. They went out together, giving blessings according to each one's own feeling. ॥14॥तब घरघर भेरि मृदंग पटह निसान बजे ॥वर बांधी वंदनमाल अरु ध्वज कलश सजे ॥Then in every house, kettle-drums, mridangs, drums, and war-drums sounded. Fine festoons were tied, and flags and auspicious vessels were arranged.तब ता दिनतें वे लोग सुख संपति न तजे ॥सुनि सूर सबनकी यह गति जे हरि चरन भजे ॥१५॥From that day onward, those people never left happiness and prosperity. Listen, says Sur: this is the state of all who worship Hari's feet. ॥15॥
