MEANING
गोविंद तिहारो स्वरूप निगम नेति नेति गावें ॥भक्तके वश श्याम सुंदर देह धरें आवें ॥१॥Govind, the Vedas sing of Your form as “not this, not this”; yet, under the sway of the devotee, Shyam Sundar takes a body and comes ॥१॥योगी मुनि ज्ञान ध्यान स्वपने नही पावें॥नंद घरनि बांधिताहि कपि ज्यों नचावें ॥२॥Yogis and sages, through knowledge and meditation, do not attain Him even in dreams; yet in Nanda's house He is tied up and made to dance like a monkey ॥२॥गोपीजन प्रेमआतुर संगलागी लोलें ॥मुरलीको नाद सुनत गृहतजि वन डोलें ॥३॥The gopis, restless with love, cling to His company and sway; hearing the sound of the flute, they leave their homes and wander into the forest ॥३॥वेदपुराण स्मृतिकथा कहत शुक बिचारी ॥परमानंद प्रेमकथा सबहिनते न्यारी ॥४॥The Vedas, Puranas, Smritis, and Shuk speak and reflect upon these accounts; Paramanand says, the story of love is distinct from all others ॥४॥
