MEANING
मैया दाऊ बहुत खिजायो ॥ मोसों कहत मोलको लियो तोय यसोमति कब जायो ॥१॥“Mother, Dau has teased Me so much! He says to Me, ‘You were bought for a price. When did Yashoda ever give birth to You?’” ॥१॥कहा करों यह रसिके मारें खेलनहू नहीं जात ॥ पुनपुन कहत कौन है माता कौन है तेरो तात ॥२॥“What can I do about His teasing? I cannot even go out to play. Again and again, He asks Me, ‘Who is Your mother? Who is Your father?’” ॥२॥गोरे नंद यशोदा गोरी तुम कित श्याम शरीर ॥ चुटकी दैदै ग्वाल सब हँसतहैं हँसत सिखै देत बलवीर ॥३॥“‘Nand is fair, and Yashoda is fair. Then why is Your body so dark?’ All the cowherd boys laugh and tease Me, while strong Balram laughs and encourages them.” ॥३॥तू मोहीको मारन सीखी दाऊ एकबहु नखीजे ॥ मोहनकों मुखरिसमेंत लखि जसुमति मनमन रीझे ॥४॥“You have only learned to punish Me, but You never scold Dau, no matter how much He teases Me!” Seeing Mohan's little face filled with anger, Yashoda is secretly delighted. ॥४॥सुनहूं कान्ह बलभद्र चवाई जन्मतही को धूत ॥ सूरस्याम मोहि गोधनकीसों मैं जननी तू पूत ॥५॥“Listen, Kanha, Balbhadra is only teasing You. Who is a trickster from the moment of birth?” Surdas says that Yashoda reassures Shyam, “I swear by the cows, I am Your mother, and You are my son.” ॥५॥
