MEANING
मथतगवाल हरिदेखी जाय ॥ गयेहते माखनकीचोरी देखतरहे नयनलजाय ॥१॥Hari goes to see a cowherd woman churning curd. He had gone there to steal butter, but upon seeing her, He stops and gazes at her shyly. ॥१॥डोलततन सिरअचराउघर्यो बेनीपीठ डोलतमनभाय ॥ वदनइंदु पयपान करनको मानोउरगउठ लागतपाय ॥२॥As she churns, her body sways, the cloth covering her head slips aside, and her braid moves gracefully across her back. Her braid looks like a serpent rising towards her moon-like face, as though wishing to drink its nectar. ॥२॥निरख स्याम अंगअंग प्रतिशोभा भुजभरके लीनी उरलाय ॥ चितेरही युवतीहरिको मुखनयनसन देचितहिचुराय ॥३॥Seeing the beauty of Shyam's form, the young cowherd woman takes Him into her arms and holds Him close. She continues gazing at Hari's face, completely captivated by His eyes. ॥३॥तनमनधन गतिमतिविसराई सुखदीनों अरुमाखनखाय ॥ सूरदासप्रभु रसिकशिरोमणि तुम्हारीलीलाको कहे गाय ॥४॥She becomes so absorbed in Hari that she forgets herself, her possessions, and what she was doing. She gladly gives Him butter, and He eats it. Surdas says, “O Lord, foremost among those who delight in loving pastimes, who can fully describe and sing of Your leelas?” ॥४॥
