पनघट रोकेंहीं रहत कन्हाई ॥ यमुनाजल कोऊ भरन पावत देखतही फिर आई ॥१॥
Kanhaiya keeps blocking the way to the watering place. Whoever comes to fetch Yamuna water turns back as soon as she sees him. ॥१॥
तबही स्यामएक बुद्धिउपाई आपन रहे छिपाई ॥ तट ठाढे जेसखा संग केतिनकों लियोबुलाई ॥२॥
Then Shyam thinks of a plan and hides himself. He calls over the companions who are standing on the bank. ॥२॥
बैठारे ग्वालिन को द्रुमतर आपन फिरफिर देखत ॥ बडीबार भई कोई न आई सूरस्याम मनलेखत ॥३॥
He seats his cowherd companions beneath a tree and keeps looking out himself. A long time passes, but no one comes. Sur says: Shyam wonders about this in his heart. ॥३॥

baithaare gvaalin ko drumatar aapan phiraphir dekhat · badeebaar bhaee koee na aaee soorasyaam manalekhat ॥3॥
