MEANING
आज महामंगल कौशलपुर सुन नृपकें सुत चार भये ॥सदन सदन सोहिलो सुहायो नभ ओर नगर निसान हये ॥१॥Today there is a great auspicious celebration in Kaushalpur, for the king has been blessed with four sons. In every home beautiful birth-songs are sung, while festive sounds resound through the city and the sky. ॥१॥अति सुख वेग बोल सुरगुरु मुनि भूपति भीतर भवनगये ॥जात कर्म कर कनक बसन मणि भूषण सुरभी समूह दये ॥२॥Filled with immense joy, the king quickly called the divine Guru and the sages, who entered the inner palace. The Jatakarma rites were performed, and gold, garments, jeweled ornaments, and herds of cows were given in charity. ॥२॥दधि अक्षत फलफूल दूब नव युवतिन भरभर थार लये ॥गावत चलीं भीरभई वीथन वंदन मांग सिंदूर दये ॥३॥Young women carried trays filled with curd, sacred rice, fruits, flowers, and fresh durva grass. Singing as they went, they crowded the streets, their foreheads adorned and the partings of their hair filled with sindur. ॥३॥कनक कलश ओर ध्वजा पताका बिचबिच बंदन बार नये ॥उडत गुलाल अरगजा छिरकत सकल लोक इकरंग रये ॥४॥Golden kalashas, flags, and banners are displayed, with fresh festive torans hung between them. Gulal fills the air and fragrant argaja is sprinkled, until everyone is coloured alike in the celebration. ॥४॥सजसज साज अमर किन्नर मुनि जान समागम गगन ठये ॥नृत्यत नव अप्सरा मुदित मन पुन पुन वरखत कुसुम चये ॥५॥Beautifully adorned, devas, Kinnaras, sages, and other celestial beings gather in the heavens. Lovely Apsaras dance with joyful hearts, while showers of flowers fall again and again. ॥५॥अति आनंद मग्न पुरवासी देत सबन मंदिर रितये ॥तुलसीदास पुनभरेहि देखियत राम कृपा चितवन चितये ॥६॥The people of the city are immersed in immense joy, giving so freely that their houses are emptied of gifts. Tulsidas says: they are seen filled anew again, through Ram’s gracious glance. ॥६॥
