MEANING
आँगन स्याम नचावहीं जसुमति नंदरानी ॥ तारी दै दै गावहीं मधुरे सुरबानी ॥१॥Yashoda, Queen of Nanda, makes Shyam dance in the courtyard. Clapping again and again, she sings in a sweet, melodious voice. ॥१॥पाँयन नूपुर वाजहीं कटि किंकिनी कूँजे । नेन्ही नेन्ही एडियन अरुनता फली बंव न पूजें ॥२॥The anklets ring upon His feet, and the tiny bells at His waist resound. His very tiny heels glow with such redness that their beauty cannot be fully praised. ॥२॥जसुमति गान सुनें श्रवनन तब आपुही गावें । तारी बाजत देखही पुनि तार बजावै ॥३॥Hearing Yashoda’s song with His ears, He Himself begins to sing; and seeing her clap, He too begins to clap. ॥३॥केहरि नख उर पर रूरै सुठि शोभाकारी । मनहूँ श्याम घन मधि में नव शशी उजियारी ॥४॥The tiger-claw ornament upon His chest shines with great beauty, as though a new moon were glowing amid a dark raincloud. ॥४॥गभवारे सीर केसहें बने घूँघरवारे लटकन लटकें भाल पर बिधु मधि गनतारें ॥५॥Thick, curling locks beautifully adorn His head, and the ornaments dangling upon His forehead appear like stars around the moon. ॥५॥कठुला कंठ चिबुक तरें मुख दसन बिराजें ॥ खंजन बीच शुक आनिकै मनु पर्यौ दुराजें ॥६॥The necklace adorns His neck beneath His chin, and His teeth shine within His mouth. His face appears as though a parrot has come to rest between two khanjan birds. ॥६॥जसुमति सुत हिं नचावही छबि देखत जियतें ॥ सूरदास प्रभु श्याम कौ सुख टरत न हियतें ॥६॥Yashoda makes her son dance, delighting in the sight of His beauty. Surdas says: the joy of Prabhu Shyam never departs from the heart. ॥६॥
