Ghuturuvan Chalat Shyam ·

Shyam crawls on his knees in the jewel-studded courtyard while both his mother and father watch him. Sometimes he squeals with delight, looking up at their faces; sometimes he gazes at his mother’s face. ॥

His locks dangle over his lovely forehead, with a dot of kajal above his brows. Whoever beholds this beauty sees that it surpasses every comparison in the three worlds. ॥

Sometimes he hurries along on his knees, falling, rising, and then rushing on again. Nand calls him from this side, while his mother calls him from the other. ॥

The couple gesture playfully to one another, making Shyam their little plaything. Surdas says: the Lord, the eternal Brahman, has won them both over through their love for him as their son. ॥४॥
