how can its priceless beauty be described?Krishnadas says: day and night, there is this joyous play of the swing in Nanda’s home. ॥१॥साखी ॥सोल्हसहस्र व्रजसुंदरी निरखत श्याम सुभाय ॥अति आनंदे हुलसकें युवजन हिलमिल गांय ॥साखी ॥Sixteen thousand beautiful women of Vraj behold the lovely form of Shyam.Filled with great joy, the young ones mingle together and sing.हिंडोरनाहो युवजन हिलमिल गांय ॥हिंडोरनाहो आनंद उर न समांय ॥हिंडोरनाहो निरखत नयन निहार ॥हिंडोरनाहो सोल्हसहस्र व्रजनार ॥At the swing, the young ones mingle together and sing.At the swing, the joy cannot be contained within their hearts.At the swing, their eyes gaze and behold.At the swing are sixteen thousand women of Vraj.छंद ॥सोल्हसहस्र सब जुरकें आई फिर न उलटि भवन गई ॥नवनेह नयन कुरंग राचीं अच्युत तनमनमय भईं ॥पीत लेहेंगा लाल चुनरि श्याम कंचुकी बांय ॥कहें कृष्णदास विलास निशदिन युवजन हिलमिल गाय ॥२॥छंद ॥All sixteen thousand gathered and came, and none returned again to her home.Their doe-like eyes were absorbed in fresh affection, and their bodies and minds became wholly absorbed in Achyut.They wore yellow lehengas, red chunaris, and dark bodices.Krishnadas says: day and night, in this joyous play, the young ones mingle together and sing. ॥२॥साखी ॥रुनक झुनक नूपुर बाजे किंकिणी क्वणित रसाल ॥परम चतुर बनवारी हें झुलवत सुन्दर नार ॥साखी ॥The anklets sound with a gentle tinkling, and the girdle-bells chime sweetly.The supremely skillful Banvari swings the beautiful women.हिंडोरनाहो झुलवत सुन्दर नार ॥हिंडोरनाहो परम चतुर बनवार ॥हिंडोरनाहो रमकन झमक विशाल ॥हिंडोरनाहो किंकिणी क्वणित रसाल ॥At the swing, He swings the beautiful women.At the swing is the supremely skillful Banvari.At the swing is a great shimmering brilliance.At the swing, the girdle-bells chime sweetly.छंद ॥क्वणित किंकिणीं रुणत नूपुर जटित तरोना सोहहीं ॥उर उडत अंचल मदन वेरख देख गिरिधर मोहहीं ॥खंसित फूल जो शिथिल वेनी गुप्त प्रकट विहार ॥कहें कृष्णदास विलास निशदिन झुलवत सुन्दर नार ॥३॥छंद ॥The girdle-bells chime, the anklets tinkle, and the jeweled earrings look beautiful.As their veils flutter, Giridhar beholds their charming beauty and is delighted.Flowers slip from their loosened braids as their play becomes visible.Krishnadas says: day and night, in this joyous play, He swings the beautiful women. ॥३॥साखी ॥गावत सुधर रसभेदसों तान मान बंधान ॥रीझि देत वृषभानजा हरिगुण सकल निधान ॥साखी ॥She sings beautifully, with the distinctions of rasa, melody, measure, and composition.Pleased, Vrishabhanja sings the virtues of Hari, the treasure-house of all virtues.हिंडोरनाहो हरिगुण सकल निधान ॥हिंडोरनाहो श्रीराधाजू परम सुजान ॥हिंडोरनाहो गावत सुधर समाज ॥हिंडोरनाहो मुरली मधुर धुनिबाज ॥At the swing are sung Hari’s virtues, the treasure-house of all virtues.At the swing is Shri Radhaju, supremely wise.At the swing, the assembled company sings beautifully.At the swing, the flute sounds its sweet melody.छंद ॥ताले मुरली बीन बाजे लाल गिरिधर गावहीं ॥हरख सुरपति कुसुम बरखे नभ निशान बजावहीं ॥हरखकें कर देत तारी अति प्रकाशित गान ॥कहें कृष्णदास विलास निशदिन हरिगुण सकल निधान ॥४॥छंद ॥In rhythm the flute and vina play, and Lal Giridhar sings.In delight, the lord of the gods showers flowers, while drums resound in the sky.Joyfully they clap their hands, and the singing shines forth splendidly.Krishnadas says: day and night, in this joyous play, Hari’s virtues are the treasure-house of all virtues. ॥४॥साखी ॥सहजगोपाल नट भेखही व्रज जन देखन आई ॥जो सुख गोकुलमें लहे सो बैकुंठ नांहीं ॥साखी ॥Sahaj Gopal is dressed in the attire of a dancer, and the people of Vraj have come to see Him.The joy found in Gokul is not found in Vaikunth.हिंडोरनाहो यह सुख गोकुल मांहीं ॥हिंडोरनाहो यह सुख बैकुंठ नांहीं ॥हिंडोरनाहो सहज गोप नट भेख ॥हिंडोरनाहो सबहि नयन भर देख ॥At the swing, this joy is found in Gokul.At the swing, this joy is not found in Vaikunth.At the swing, Sahaj Gop is dressed as a dancer.At the swing, everyone beholds Him to their heart’s content.छंद ॥नयन निरखत बेन मीठे मेन कोटिक वारहीं ॥भुजभरें सुन्दरि हरें हरिमन कहत कछुवन आवहीं ॥श्याम सुंदर भक्त वत्सल लाल गिरिधर हे जांह ॥कहें कृष्णदास विलास निशदिन यह सुख गोकुल मांह ॥५॥छंद ॥Beholding Him with their eyes and hearing the sweet flute, they would offer millions of Cupids in comparison.The beautiful women lovingly embrace Him and captivate Hari’s heart; no words come to their lips.There is Shyam Sundar, tender toward His devotees, Lal Giridhar.Krishnadas says: day and night, in this joyous play, this joy is found in Gokul. ॥५॥साखी ॥श्रीयमुनातट संकेतवट निशदिन यह विलास ॥कुंज सदन गिरिवरधरन हृदय वसो कृष्णदास ॥६॥साखी ॥On the bank of Shri Yamunaji, at Sanket-vat, this joyous play continues day and night.O Girivardharan, dwelling in the kunj abode, reside in the heart of Krishnadas. ॥६॥
