MEANING
मैयामोको माखनमिश्रीभावे ॥ जो मेवापकवानदेतू मोहिनहीं रुचिआवे ॥१॥“Mother, I love butter and mishri (sugar crystals). The dried fruits and sweets You give me do not please me.” ॥१॥व्रजयुवती एक पाछेठाडी सुनत स्यामकी बात ॥ मनमनकहतकबहू मेरेघर देखोंमाखनखात ॥२॥A young woman of Vraj stands behind Him, listening to Shyam's words. She thinks to herself, “When will I have the joy of seeing Him eating butter in my house?” ॥२॥बैठें जाय मथनि याकेढिंग मैंतबरहूंछिपाय ॥ पाछेंआन अचानकहरिको गहूँओचकाधाय ॥३॥“I shall sit near the churning pot and then hide myself. When Hari comes, I shall suddenly rush forward from behind and catch Him by surprise.” ॥३॥राखों कठिनउरोजनकेबिंच तजूँ वेदकुलकान ॥ सूरदासप्रभु अंतरयामी ग्वालिनमनकी जान ॥४॥“I shall hold Him firmly against my heart, setting aside the rules of the Vedas and concern for my family's honour.” Surdas says that the Lord, who knows what is in every heart, understands the thoughts of the cowherd woman. ॥४॥
