रघुवंशी जिजमान तिहारो ढाढी आयोहो ॥रामजन्म सुनकें हों आयो राख हमारो मान ॥१॥“O Raghuvanshi, I am Your family bard, and I have come to You. Hearing of Ram’s birth, I have come—please honour me.” ॥१॥एक वार हों पहलें आयो अब कोसल्याजाई ॥दे गहनों ढाढिन पेहेराई बहुत बधाईपाई ॥२॥“I came once before, when Kaushalya gave birth. She gave ornaments to my bardess to wear, and we received abundant gifts of celebration.” ॥२॥अब जन्मे भरत शत्रुघन लक्ष्मण रघुपति परम उदार ॥चारोंनेग निवेरो मेरे दशरथनृप दातार ॥३॥“Now Bharat, Shatrughna, Lakshman, and the supremely generous Raghupati have been born. O generous King Dasharath, please fulfil the customary gifts due to me for all four sons.” ॥३॥बडीबेस सुत दियो विधाता तबही आयहों गायो ॥अश्व रक्ष गज सोंनो मोती दे यशवितान जगछायो ॥४॥“When, in Your later years, the Creator blessed You with sons, I came at once and sang Your praises. By giving horses, chariots, elephants, gold, and pearls, You spread the canopy of Your fame throughout the world.” ॥४॥करहा वाजदिये करजोरें कनक रत्न भर नाग ॥बहुत दूधकी भेंसेंदीनी भले हमारे भाग ॥५॥“You gave camels and horses, and elephants laden with gold and jewels. You gave many buffaloes rich in milk—how blessed is my fortune!” ॥५॥मेरे आस तिहारे घरकी ओरनसों नहि काज ॥फलो अशीश हमारे मुखकी बढोवंश रघुराज ॥“My hopes rest upon Your house; I have no need of anyone else. May the blessing spoken from my mouth bear fruit: O Raghuraj, may Your lineage ever flourish.”करहाकी गति नाचन लाग्यो ढाढिन हुरक बजाई ॥कौशल्या कैकई सुमित्रा कंचनमुठी चलाई ॥७॥The Dhadhi begins to dance with the lively gait of a camel, while the Dhadin plays the hurak. Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra shower handfuls of gold. ॥७॥बारबार दान देत हें लेहिं जननकों लागो ॥दियोदुशाला कियो निहाला ओर गुदीतेंबागो ॥८॥Again and again they give gifts, saying, “Take whatever you desire.” A fine shawl is given, delighting him, and another beautiful garment is brought forth. ॥८॥रत्न जटित टोडर पेहेराये ढाढी कुंडलकान ॥महाराज दशरथ तिहीं अवसर हाटक वरस्यो दान ॥९॥The Dhadhi is adorned with a jewel-studded todar and kundals upon his ears. At that very moment Maharaj Dasharath showers gold in charity. ॥९॥ढाढिनकों भीतरतें आयो कंचन पचरंग चीर ॥फूली डोले चांयन चांयन छायो तिनपें हीर ॥१०॥From within the palace, a beautiful five-coloured, gold-adorned garment is brought for the Dhadin. Delighted, she walks about proudly and joyfully, sparkling with diamonds. ॥१०॥गागन भेंस पोरी मुकलाई मेल गुदीमें हास ॥रत्नदाम मानों हेमजराये दे खोली मनगांस ॥११॥Cows and buffaloes are sent out through the gateway, and laughter and delight fill the gathering. Jeweled necklaces set in gold are given freely, fulfilling the desires of their hearts. ॥११॥तब ढाढी प्रफुल्लित व्हे बोल्यो सुन नृप मेरी बात ॥पोरी बंधावो रावरी फुल्यो अंग न मात ॥१२॥Then the Dhadhi, overflowing with joy, says, “O King, listen to one request of mine. Let me remain at Your royal gateway.” His joy is so great that he can scarcely contain himself. ॥१२॥यह मनोरथ मेरे मनको द्वार पर्यों हों गाऊं ॥कौसल्या सुत नयनन देखों अपनी गोद खिलाऊं ॥१३॥“This is the cherished desire of my heart: that I may remain at Your doorway and sing; that I may behold Kaushalya’s son with my own eyes and lovingly play with Him in my lap.” ॥१३॥जन्म बधाई दशरथ सुतकी सीखे सुने ओर गावेधर्म अर्थ कामना मुक्तिफल भक्ति पदारथ पावे ॥१४॥Whoever learns, hears, and sings this song celebrating the birth of Dasharath’s son attains dharma, artha, the fulfilment of desires, the fruit of liberation, and the treasure of bhakti. ॥१४॥बहुत भांत ढाढी पेहेरायो जो माग्यो सोदीनो ॥अग्रदासकों दान अभयपद बहुत अयाचीकीनो ॥१५॥The Dhadhi was adorned and honoured in many ways, and whatever he asked for was given. Agradas says: such abundant gifts were bestowed that none remained in need, and the fearless state was granted. ॥१५॥
