Meaning
गुरके गुंजा पूआ सुहारी ॥ गोधन पूजत व्रजकी नारी ॥१॥
Beautiful offerings of gur, gunja, and pua are prepared. The women of Vraj worship the cows. ॥१॥
घरघर गोमय प्रतिमा धारी ॥ बाजत रुचिर पखावज थारी ॥२॥
In every home, figures are made from cow dung. Pakhavajs and metal plates resound beautifully. ॥२॥
गोदलियें मंगल गुण गावत ॥ कमल नयनकों पांय लगावत ॥३॥
Taking the little ones with them, they sing auspicious songs. They bow at the feet of the lotus-eyed One. ॥३॥
हरद दही रोचनके टीके ॥ यह व्रज सुरपुर लागत फीके ॥४॥
Tilaks of turmeric, curd, and rochan are applied. Beside this Vraj, even the celestial realm seems pale. ॥४॥
राती पीरी गाय शृंगारी ॥ बोलत ग्वाल देदे करतारी ॥५॥
The cows are adorned in red and yellow. The Gopas call out, “Give, give, O generous ones!” ॥५॥
हरिदास गोवर्धनधारी ॥ ऋतु मानत सुख वरस दीवारी ॥६॥
Haridas says: Govardhandhari joyfully celebrates the season, as the happiness of Diwali pours forth. ॥६॥
