MEANING
रतन खचितको पालनो सुंदर झूलत नंदकेलाला ॥ नवसत साज सिंगार सुंदरी झुलवत हैं गोपाला ॥१॥A beautiful, jewel-studded cradle is swinging, with Nanda’s beloved Lālā in it. The beautiful women, newly dressed and adorned, are swinging Gopāla. ॥१॥कोऊ गावत कोऊ झांझ बजावत ढफ लेकोऊ बजावे ॥ धिधिकट धिधिकट मृदंग करत है गतिमेंगति ऊपजावे ॥२॥Some are singing, some are playing jhāñjh, and some are playing the daf. The mṛdaṅga plays “dhidhikaṭ, dhidhikaṭ,” creating one rhythm after another. ॥२॥चोवाचंदन छिरकि छिरकि कें लाल रगमगो कीनो ॥ अबीर गुलाल उडाय खिलावत पिचकाई भरिलीनो ॥३॥Sprinkling chovā and sandalwood again and again, they cover Lāl with colors. Filling the pichkārī, they play with Him, sending abīr and gulāl into the air. ॥३॥लाल लाल बदरा छाये नभमें देखतही बनिआवे ॥ चुचुकारत मुख मांडत सब मिलि मनहीमन मुसक्यावे ॥४॥Red clouds have spread across the sky, making the whole scene beautiful. They all make playful sounds and expressions with their faces, and smile to themselves. ॥४॥निरखि निरखि मुख कमल मनोहर प्रेमविवश भई गोपी॥ मगन भई तनकी सुधिभूलीं कुलमरजादालोपी ॥५॥Again and again seeing His beautiful lotus face, the gopīs become overcome with love. They become completely absorbed, forgetting their own bodies and even their family customs and restraints. ॥५॥केशर कलश शीश पैढोरत हो हो कहि बोलें ॥ ग्वाल बाल उनमत्तव्हेनाचें गारी गावत डोलें ॥६॥They carry pots of saffron upon their heads and call out, “Ho! Ho!” The cowherd boys become greatly excited, dancing and swaying while singing playful Holī songs. ॥६॥प्रफुल्लितमन यह फागु खेलमें चहुंदिश आनंद छायो ॥ कुंभनदास लाल गिरिधर को यह विधि लाड लड्यायो ॥७॥With joyful hearts, they play this Phāg, and happiness spreads in every direction. Kumbhandās lovingly plays with Lāl Giridhar in this way. ॥७॥
