MEANING
हँसहँस कहत कृष्ण मुखबानी ॥हमनांही रिस तुमपर आनी ॥१॥Krishna smiles and says with His own lips, “I am not angry with you.” ॥१॥तुम कित अति शंका जियमानी ॥भलीकर व्रज वरख्यो पानी ॥२॥“Why do you hold so much fear in your heart? It was well that you showered rain upon Vraj.” ॥२॥यहसुन इंद्र अतिहि सकुचान्यों ॥व्रज अवतार नही में जान्यों ॥३॥Hearing this, Indra became deeply ashamed: “I did not know that You had appeared in Vraj.” ॥३॥राखराख त्रिभुवनके नाथ ॥नहि मोसो कोउ और अनाथ ॥४॥“Protect me, protect me, O Lord of the three worlds! There is no one more helpless than I.” ॥४॥फिरफिर चरण धरत ले माथ ॥क्षमा करो मोहि राखो साथ ॥५॥Again and again he places the Lord’s feet upon his head: “Forgive me and keep me near You.” ॥५॥रवि आगें खद्योत प्रकाश ॥मणि आगें ज्यों दीपकनाश ॥६॥Before the sun, the glow of a firefly is nothing; before a radiant jewel, the light of a lamp fades away. ॥६॥कोटि ब्रह्म शिव कोटि अविनास ॥मो गरीबकी केतिक आस ॥७॥“Before You are countless Brahmas and Shivas; what, then, can one as humble as I claim before You?” ॥७॥ ॥७॥दीन वचन सुन भवके वास ॥क्षमाकरो जल पर्यो हुतास ॥८॥Hearing these humble words, the Lord of the world forgave him; the fire of His displeasure was cooled as though water had fallen upon it. ॥८॥अमरापति चरणन तर लोटत ॥रही नहीं उरमें कछ खोटत ॥९॥The lord of the devas rolls at His feet, with no trace of deceit remaining in his heart. ॥९॥उभय भुजा कर लियो उठाय ॥सुरपति शीश अभय कर नाय ॥१०॥With both arms, the Lord raises him up and places His reassuring hand upon Surapati’s bowed head. ॥१०॥हँस दीनी प्रभु लोग बड़ाई ॥श्रीमुख कह्यो करौ सुख जाई ॥११॥Smiling, Prabhu restored his honour before everyone and said with His own blessed lips, “Go now in peace and happiness.” ॥११॥जयजय ध्वनि सब देवन गाई ॥धन्य धन्य जनके सुखदाई ॥१२॥All the devas cried, “Jaya! Jaya! Blessed, blessed is the One who gives happiness to His people!” ॥१२॥शिव विरंचि सनकादिक नारद ॥गौरी सुत दोऊ संग शारद ॥१३॥Shiva, Brahma, Sanaka and the other sages, Narada, the two sons of Gauri, and Sharada were all present. ॥१३॥रवि शशि वरुण अनल यमराज ॥आज भये सब पूरण काज ॥१४॥Surya, Chandra, Varuna, Agni, and Yamaraj rejoiced: “Today every purpose has been fulfilled.” ॥१४॥अशरण शरण सदां तुम बानो ॥यह लीला प्रभु तुमही जानो ॥१५॥“You are forever the refuge of those who have no refuge. Prabhu, You alone understand this Leela.” ॥१५॥मातासों सुत करे ढिठाई ॥माता फिरताकों सुखदाई ॥१६॥A child may behave stubbornly with his mother, yet the mother in return continues to care for him with love. ॥१६॥ज्यों धरणी हल खोद विनाशे ॥सन्मुख सतगुण फलहि प्रकाशे ॥१७॥Just as the plough cuts into the earth, yet the earth in return brings forth abundant fruit before it. ॥१७॥कर कुठार ले तरुहि गिरावे ॥वह काटे वह छायापावे ॥१८॥A man takes an axe in his hand and fells a tree; even while he cuts it, he still receives its shade. ॥१८॥जैसें दशन जीभ दलि जाई ॥तब कासों सो करे रिसाई ॥१९॥Just as the teeth may accidentally bite the tongue—against whom, then, should the tongue become angry? ॥१९॥धन्य व्रज धन्य गोकुल वृदांवन ॥धन्य यमुना धन्य लता कुंजवन ॥२०॥Blessed is Vraj, blessed are Gokul and Vrindavan. Blessed is Yamuna, and blessed are the creepers, kunjas, and forests. ॥२०॥धन्य नंद धन्य जननि यशोदा ॥बाल केलि प्रभुकरे समोदा ॥२१॥Blessed is Nanda, and blessed is Mother Yashoda, with whom Prabhu joyfully performs His childhood Leelas. ॥२१॥स्तुति सुन मन हरख बढायो ॥साधुसाधु कही सुरन सुनायो ॥२२॥Hearing this praise, His heart filled with joy. The devas exclaimed, “Sadhu! Sadhu!” in approval. ॥२२॥तुमही जाय जब मोहि जगायो ॥तुमारेई काज देह धर आयो ॥२३॥“When you yourselves went and awakened Me, I assumed this form and came for your very sake.” ॥२३॥तुम राखों असुरन सिंधारों ॥तनु धरी धरणी भार उतारों ॥२४॥“I shall protect you and destroy the asuras. I have assumed this body to remove the burden of the earth.” ॥२४॥आवत जात बहुत श्रम पायो ॥जावो भवन कर कृपा पठायो ॥२५॥“You have undergone much weariness in coming and going. Now return to your abodes.” Graciously, He sent them on their way. ॥२५॥कर सिर धर धर चले देव गन ॥पहुंचे अमर लोक आनंद मन ॥२६॥Again and again placing their hands upon their heads in reverence, the hosts of devas departed and reached the celestial realm with joyful hearts. ॥२६॥यहलीला सुर घरन सुनाई ॥गाय उठीं सुरनारि बधाई ॥२७॥They recounted this Leela in the homes of the devas, and the celestial women arose and sang songs of celebration. ॥२७॥अमरलोक आनन्द भयो सब ॥हरख सहित सुरपति आये जब ॥२८॥The entire celestial realm was filled with joy when Surapati returned there rejoicing. ॥२८॥सूरदास सुरपति अति हरख्यो ॥जयजय ध्वनि सुमनन व्रज वरख्यो ॥२९॥Surdas says: Surapati rejoiced greatly; cries of “Jaya! Jaya!” resounded, and flowers were showered upon Vraj. ॥२९॥
